Significant steps, such as the development of EDGE, WCDMA – GSM/GPRS inter-working, CDMA2000 EV-DO, HSPA, and lately HSPA+ Dual Cell and LTE have been taken in the evolution of network technologies. Nemo Outdoor Multi Lite is a modern, lightweight benchmarking solution that thanks to its compact size can even be taken as carry-on luggage on an aircraft. The casing has been designed and developed so that benchmarking, voice quality and drive test measurements can be performed without interference among test terminals, regardless of the solution’s small size. Flexible Hardware Platform

Ensuring the ability to capture high data rates, while having the assurance that data loss will not occur when doing so is critical when monitoring today’s high load networks environments. This becomes even more crucial as both new and legacy networks continue to move in the direction of all IP networks. The NSA System is fed by data collected by the K18 and K15 hardware platforms working in a ”stream store analyze” mode to ensure that data integrity can not be compromised.

The K18 and K15 hardware platforms perform real time capturing under heavy load from ATM, PCM, Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces. They also perform line-rate hard ware filtering (e.g. control plane/ user plane, VPI/ VCI, IP addresses) to allow users to effectively narrow their trouble shooting activities on a small subset of critical information from the high volumes of monitored traffic.

K18 probes provide a portable, flexible, high-performance solution. Easily carried together with a standard laptop for on-site activities, the system can be scaled to support multiple measuring points in the same, or different, locations. The K15 hardware provides an optimal upgrade path for existing Tektronix Communications customers, allowing this group to continue leveraging previous investments. With the NSA supporting mixed hardware environments users can easily extend the number and types of probes to match the requirements of their growing installations.

Auto-configuration and Topology

Time spent preparing to trouble shoot is time that could be better spent on trouble shooting it self. In order to minimize unproductive time used on activities such as configuring the system for monitoring activities, the NSA can identify and auto-configure thousands of logical network interfaces and logical links with in minutes.

For static testing environments where traffic load is lower and a learning phase is undesirable, the Topology and Link Configuration Editor allows users to manually populate and/ or edit a network topology within seconds.

Call Trace

Call Trace effectively equips users with a magnifying glass to detect the needle in the hay stack of collected data. By correlating each data flow over all the monitored interfaces, the NSA provides an over view of each call and its most important attributes. This allows the NSA to provide full visibility of the radio network/ network sub system under test and quickly identifies the root cause of problems.

With a powerful range of technology specific and technology-generic filters, users can focus on a subset of calls that meet the criteria that they wish to investigate, with drill down to bit level details available with a single mouse-click. Frames from call traces that are of particular interest can be exported for user plane quality analysis to be executed, or alternatively to standard office applications to create reports on network problems.

Message-based Statistics and KPIs

Sometimes the user requires a tool that can make a broad scan of the collected data and quickly identify potential problems. Being able to quickly view a statistical distribution of messages and release causes, an unexpected or unusually high incidence of a particular event can swiftly be identified. By viewing the distribution of this event over time, users can quickly see whether the issue is related to a particular incident (i.e a network node restart), or is spread evenly throughout the testing period. The NSA allows ”drill up” from individual messages and events to the related call trace so that users can quickly investigate the influence of an event on the related user experience.

At other times only key performance indicators that map complex relationships between multiple parameters and call phases are sufficient to confirm or refute a hypothesis.

For these cases, the NSA provides a comprehensive set of Key Performance Indicators that provide key insight into the influence that different parameters have one of each other. This allows for domain are a identification of service problems, mapping of service issues to network issues, and results in reducing the time required for network optimization and trouble shooting applications. For maximum flexibility, users can continuously modify which relationships they wish to investigate (i.e. is the problem related to a particular node B, a particular cell or a particular handset type). Drill down to the calls/ transaction behind a KPI provides the user with the information to go from KPI to the identification of the problem cause with just a mouse click. All KPI measurements are stored within an open MY SQL database, and can be accessed by third party tools. This allows for easy integration of the solution within existing measurement systems.

Multi-user support

A typical test bed environment can find multiple users who need to see only a subset of interfaces or handsets that are under test. Users require full flexibility to filter out and save data relevant to their test, and do not wish to be impacted by the applications being used by others that are sharing the system. The NSA’s Multi-user capabilities allow users to work completely independently by sharing the data captured by a common set of probes, and forwarding only the data required by the individual user to his remote terminal. Here the user has the freedom to use the NSA applications of his choice without impacting the performance being experienced by other users. Multi-user capabilities ensure maximum system utilization and efficiency of engineering teams.

Air Interface Monitoring

In 2G/ 2.5G and 3G technologies, significant air interface information is available on wire line interfaces such as Abis and lub. With the implementation of self-governing eNodeBs within the LTE network, this form of control information is no longer sent on a wire line interface. Users are required to move closer to the radio interface itself to gain key insight in to the performance of the eNodeB and the radio network.

The NSA provides air interface insight by supporting promiscuous air interface monitoring via the CPRI control port implemented on the majority of eNodeBs. Applications such as call trace and KPIs seamlessly correlate the wireless information within formation collected on the S1 and X2 interfaces. This capability provides the user with a 360˚ view of radio network performance. Graphical depictions of key RF physical layer parameters are supported to investigate RF performance and quality, and can be analyzed in conjunction with higher layer protocol information to determine the impact that RF PHY performance has on service quality, for example.

Vendor specific Protocol Versions and Regular 3GPP Updates

In these early phases of LTE development and trialing, Network Equipment Manufac-turers often use 3GPP specifications with some vendor specific elements. Tektronix Communications supports vendor-specific versions of the LTE interface protocols, and is renowned for their quick implementation time when modified protocol versions are required. SITE SEARCHING

MW Line of Sight/ LoS Survey

The goal of the MW LoS survey is to check the possibility of MW link imple-mentation between two sites (point to point). We divide the survey base on the path distance, i.e. short and long distance.

For short distance (< 5 km), the visibility check between two sites could be performed by binocular, while the long distance path (> 5 km) should also be checked with map study. The visibility checked done by climbing the existing tower or the existing building.

The data should be taken while doing the field survey are :

  • Site location lay out map
  • Exactly Coordinate of sites (Decimal/ DMS Notation)
  • Altitude of sites (ASL/ Above Sea Level)
  • True North of the sites
  • Potential Obstacle/ Blocking Object (such as height of trees, buildings, towers, hills, etc.) with azimuth degree
  • Terrain condition along the path (water, sea, dessert, etc.)
  • Maximum tower height allowed (for new tower)
  • Picture of sites, picture of path, picture of blocking objects
  • Any other information which influence the MW link implementation

 

NODAL/ REPEATER HUNTING

In case of a new BTS coverage in rural & hilly location could not find its BSC. One or more site as repeater are required.

  • Study map will be held using topography & navigation software.
  • Defining the candidate of sites as minimum amount as can be.
  • The Candidates should be near civilization and get the easiest access as much as possible.
  • Survey for the exact location on site afterward.

MW Path Profile Analysis

For MW path profile analysis we use Pathloss software with profile source data from Terrain Map with scale 1:25000 or 1:50000 (from Bakosurtanal Cibinong and Geological Department Bandung).

With appropriate software, we plot the site coordinates which taken from GPS in map and make path line between two sites in the map.

Then we input the profile data (distance and elevation) to the Pathloss software and adjust the MW antenna height.

The report will be shown in a MW Path Profile Drawing sheet and an orientation sheet which all necessary data including coordinates, azimuth, altitude, path distance, MW frequency, MW antenna height, earth radius factor (K), MW antenna tilt degree.

 

MW Path Calculation/ Link Budget Analysis

We also use the Pathloss software for analysis the Path calculation/ Link budget. This software could be applied or any vendors equipment (Alcatel, Nokia, Siemens, Ericsson, DMC, etc) as long as we have the parameter/ specification of the MW radio and antenna.

We could find the parameter data from equipment vendor and input to the Pathloss software.

The data are including the Transmitted Power, Threshold Transmit Power, Antenna Gain, RX signal, Fade margin, Annual availability, SESR, MW Frequency, Branching Loss, Feeder Loss. To have the result we should have the outage objective time of the MW link, as an ITU standard for PDH MW Link is 0.005% and for SDH is 0.002%.

Beside that objective we should also put rain availability as consideration for MW link above 6 GHz in this analysis. The result of the MW Path Calculation/ Link Budget Analysis will be shown in a table list with the main result is the Availability/ Unavailability of the link.

The site survey is performed by qualified engineers with experience in Telecom projects inside and outside Indonesia.

BENCHMARKING

Benchmarking specific purpose to compared performance before-after tuning frequency (swap/ cutover) in one or more site/ cluster, or compared network quality and coverage for 2 or more kind operators in GSM, CDMA, or UMTS frequency.

Benchmarking method generally uses 2 or more MS (Mobile Station) with different mode and different operator. Output Benchmarking are KPIs measurement and statistic network parameter.
